I have delved into a whole new world, and I am thrilled.
A year or more ago, I got a DVD burner, and started learning how to make DVD movies. It all started (well, I guess it was more like 2-3 years ago) when a guy I worked with asked me to take his old wedding movies and put them onto DVD. He was about to retire, and he and his wife had gotten married in the 50s in Argentina, where she’s from. (I actually made a vlog post about her not too long ago). Anyways, I used Roxio 6, which could juuuust barely make DVDs–there wasn’t a lot of the extra bells and whistles like there are now, but it worked. He loved the DVD when it was done, and he said his wife cried. I also ended up doing their son’s and their daughter’s weddings on DVD. They took my family out to dinner.
From that, I turned to sports. Rainlin played soccer, and soon Dylan did too. I would take my Sony CD500 to games and film the fun stuff, then come home and take each game, set it to music, and basically turn it into a music video. At the end of the season soccer party, I burned DVDs for each of the kids. Their parents were freaking thrilled.
So I’ve done it for soccer, I’ve done it for t-ball, and I’ve done it for cheerleading. I’ve burned little movies of Rainlin’s girlfriend’s birthday parties. Everyone has loved them.
Now I’ve found videoblogging.
I’ve found a way to take these movies that I love so much making and show them to the world. People can download and watch them on their new video iPod, in iTunes, or just on their website. They can leave me comments, or send links to the movies to their friends.
I’ve also made this whole new foundation of friends. There’s probably a hundred hard-core vloggers on the planet earth right now who are really into it and love our community of friends. Just today, I went to school and had lunch with Dylan for the first time at school, and I saw his art teacher on the way out. I gave her a link to Bre’s site and told her I thought she’d really dig it. I hope she checks it out.
I really think I’ve found my niche in life. This is what I really, really love to do. And if I end up teaching it at the Apple store–well, that would be a total added bonus. It’s pure channeled excitement.
