Taking pictures.

Posted by Susan on Apr 28th, 2006

Drinking from the fountain I took another soccer team’s photos last night. Apparently the coach had been asked in the last game if they were going to get pictures done this year, and he realized he had totally forgotten about it. Photo Kity to the rescue!

I’m beginning to realize that every time I do a team’s photos, I screw something up–but I learn from it. This team’s folly? I rushed. It was the first time I ever rushed–and I don’t even know why I rushed. But I am certain that several photos could have been in better focus if I had just taken my time. They were in no hurry to get anywhere.

The last team, well the last one I delivered, was the one that I botched up the manual aperture setting on. That completely, completely sucked. I was in tears. But with a very understanding customer and hours in front of the computer staring at neon grass, I got them at least presentable. I gave everyone on the team a free black-and-white keychain of their child because I felt so bad.

Let’s see… the team before that, the sun was a bit behind them, and quite a few kids had shadows on their faces… that was before I got Adobe Photoshop Elements… and man let me tell you I friggin LOVE that program.

That brings up my single biggest problem: I want the flash to fire in idiot-proof portrait mode, and it won’t. That’s why I was messing with manual aperture settings (which, for the life of me, I just can’t figure out.) I just can’t figure out how to get the flash to go off.

So what did I do wrong with the first team, the team my daughter was on? I didn’t do her picture. I did the whole team, got halfway home, and realized I didn’t do my own kid’s picture. What a goof.
