Go for a bike ride.
My parents have lived on the beachfront as long as I can remember, at least with a second, summer home. Currently they’re in Maine, and soon they will be in Florida too. While being retired is wonderful, and laying on the beach is relaxing and good for the soul, what’s something that they might not get very much of?
Exercise.
I found a website that sells cruiser bicycles, something I had never heard of before. They’re beautiful, stylish, and are designed for a leisurely stroll along the beach… although you don’t really have to ride them on the beach at all. The image in this post is a men’s bike that I found, that I can picture my dad taking a spin on. When I was little, we were always on bikes, taking a ride from one destination to another, and not just little five minute trips, but hour long journeys that usually had a lunch in between. Those rides were in the city, though–riddled with street crossings, traffic lights, and all kinds of dangerous stuff. Where my parents live now there’s miles and miles of beach, with no traffic lights in between.
I’d love to see them take on something like this and get a little extra exercise while enjoying their days in the sun.
